I don't think that "stupid" is the right word. I see it more along the lines of just plain lazy.
Google has made us lazy in so many ways. We have become so accustomed to just logging on to our computer, typing in google.com, and searching for whatever it is we want to find. No one uses books anymore. No one goes to museums. It's all on the internet now.
How many students have been assigned a book to read for class and have actually read it? There are a select few out there who actually read the novel but I can bet that most of the kids out there have searched the title of the book on the internet and have somehow come across sparknotes.com. What a great invention...
All the internet is is just a million and one pages of quick reviews. I think that we have been brainwashed into thinking that if an essay has more than one or two pages, then it is a waste of our time. We just want to get things done quickly and efficiently. After a few paragraphs, we get bored and just stop reading. What the hell is going on? Because of Google and the millions of other fact sights, we have become so lazy that we cannot even get through a two page essay. Lets's be honest here...

Skunk Dreams?
My first question is simple. Why not Walrus Dreams?
Anyway...
When Edrich describes a time, whether it be curled up in a sleeping bag in the middle of a football field or taking a hike on some hidden trail in the forest or just plain sneaking into a wildlife preserve, you can see it. You can see it as if you were the one experiencing these...adventures? She writes so elegantly yet so causally. Her verbiage was extremely well thought out and it definately added to the attraction.
The main attraction I am eluding to is her skunk obsession. Why skunks? Like my first question, why not walruses? (walrusi?) Or why not elephants? Everybody likes elephants! It was just amusing when she told her story. She went through life learning different lessons but put them in a skunks perspective on occasion. She was quite interested in skunks it seems, but I still wonder why she chose an animal in the first place to be the second perspective of this essay. If she could be any animal, why a skunk? Of all things?

What is the Talk of the Town?
After reading a few lines of Adam Gopnik, I started thinking that this guy really knows how to write. He starts off with the image of a mass murder similar to or exactly like Colombine and adds the sound of cell phones. The ringing of cell phones is all that can be heard. I had to take a step back after I read this. I have read this essay before but it still gets me. I can't even imagine being a parent trying to call my child after an incident like this and just having the ringing of a cell phone pounding in my ear without the release of a familiar voice to calm myself.
It's funny though because this isn't even what the essay is really about. It is just another attention getter that does a damn good jod at getting and keeping ones attention. When you read further, Gopnik starts to slow down and bring in the real issue. Why is America so bad with gun control? That's kinda what I got out of this essay. Almost everything he discusses is about how the United States isn't very good at preventing mass murders. We are the United States. We are hunting country. Until we learn to step off the trigger, cell phones will ring like birds singing.

Hello Everyone!
Hey there JKUNK!
How is everybody doing this fine summer? That's good :)
SO...I wanted to start of by introducing myself to everyone here. My name is Emma Christine Buchholz! I am 17 years old and a senior at McFarland High School.
I enjoy sleeping and eating quite a bit. Sometimes I throw in a little movie watching from time to time to mix it up...you know, just keep the body guessing. Its an ordinary life I live and I have become well adjusted to it.
I do live in McFarland with my mom, my dad, a younger sister, and a younger brother. We have a dog and two cats that show up occasionally if they aren't sleeping.
There really isn't much to me I suppose. Just the basics to share. If there are anyother questions though, I would love to answer them :)
Good bye for now!
